This Blog was one year old yesterday. I know in the big scheme of things that this is a relatively small thing, but hey, I have to write about something. Time seems to go by so quickly. It is hard to believe that I have been teaching yoga full time for over five years now. I remember when I started teaching. Everyone said that if I modeled the poses with my classes and practiced three to four times a day that I would “burn out”. I still have as much passion for the practice and teaching of yoga as I have ever had. I think that my experience and quest for knowledge has made me a better instructor. My practice feels as strong as ever, and I really love teaching yoga. Yesterday brought two classes to sub last minute. One was at Sumits Yoga and the other was at DC Villages. Of note yesterday was my 4:30pm hour of power class at DC Village. There were only six yogis in the class. There were five gals and my friend Kevin. Class started out with the traditional stretching that I like to start with and the became progressively more challenging. The class kept up with many of the challenging poses. Everyone lifted into the Bird of Paradise pose (svarga dvejasana)
and most of them lifted into the revolved variation (not an easy pose) The energy level was high and I led them through many challenging poses including turtle pose (kurmasana) and reclining turtle pose (supta kurmasana). Just about everyone could do them. Hand standing (urdhva mukha vrkshasana) proved to be a challenge for a few of the gals, but everyone put in a really great effort. Back bending (urdhva danhurasana) was very above average. I teach quite a few classes every day, and am rarely impressed with the abilities of a class as a whole (individuals, yes frequently). This class was full of energy and I tried to take their practices deeper. I truly appreciate when everyone in a class puts energy and effort into their practice. The results of a dedicated practice are always very apparent to me. I am grateful for everyone in that practice, and look forward to seeing them practice again. Tonight I will be attending the Free flow class at LifePower yoga from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. It proves to be fun and full of positive vibes.
