Working the Yoga on Labor Day Weekend

A wonderful Labor Day weekend. Friday afternoon I taught my first vinyasa class up at Blissful Yoga. Free Yoga there all week. I had 15 students. I don’t know if that is good or not, first class and all and free yoga. I brought Sam with me. The class flowed well, and there was a lot of good energy. As always, when I begin teaching at a new place, people don’t quite know what to make of me. Some were disturbed by the challenge, and others were stimulated by it. We will see in the coming weeks how the class grows. The owner, Rosa, was there and invited us to the Yoga Jubilee that they were having. Yoga and live music. I agreed to come to one of the sessions on Sunday.
Saturday I taught my regular compliment of classes. The Power Yoga Class at Gainey Village was of note because I really worked the Yogis there hard. I called it my “Burger, Brat, Bun and Beer Burner.”  A term I repeated for this mornings 10:45am Vinyasa Yoga class at Lifetime fitness. The class at Gainey was much more intense. It started with the normal stretching and Sun Salutations, but then lead into an “add on vinyasa” which took us all over the place through push ups up to 10, and an ending in handstand. There was lots of internal heat being created, and there was sweat everywhere. The class ended with some partner stretching. A really good 90 min. class with a game group of Yogis.

Sunday morning I recruited Sam and my friend Kevin to join me at the Yoga Jubilee outing at Blissful Yoga in Glendale. It was a vinyasa class with a focus on arm balance. Reconnected with a few Yoga instructors that I had not seen for a while before and after class. Rosa led the 2 hr class with  live music from Rara Avis. The class was good. It was a little slower than I prefer for classes, but the pace appeared perfect for the other practitioners. There were a few arm balances and inversions, but hardly enough to make that the focus of the practice.

The live music added another level to the energy of the practice. I was grateful to Rosa for the wonderful gift of the class. I generated some wonderful detoxifying internal heat, and felt wonderful after the class. After some chores and lunch, we arrived home and relaxed for the rest of the day.

This morning, up early for mysore practice at Lifepower with John. Second Series Ashtanga practice. Felt really good, and received some wonderful adjustments from John. Then off to teach my 10:45am Lifetime fitness Vinyasa 2 Yoga class. It was a busy class, there were 21 students. Some of the regulars were there, but there were many new faces as well. My largest class since I started teaching there. It was one of those classes where I keep everyone in perpetual motion. The whole class was one constant flow with very few pauses. I prefer classes like that, especially when they are only one hour in length. Michelle joined me for that class. She needs the relaxation.
Later today we are off to a BBQ, and then tomorrow another full day of teaching yoga. More later.

Namaste,

Scott
